The Arctic Monkeys And Their Indie History

By Matthew Morgan

Sometimes other people are complaining about their neighbours because of the loud music that interrupts their relaxation. Others would say that rock music is a noise pollution and fans would really counter them some strong arguments on how that genre is absolutely an art and authentic compared to pop genres. Nevertheless, many individuals have dreamed to become like Kurt Cobain, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart and other famous rock-stars out there. Furthermore, before you start to dream about it, you must also know that some underrated bands like The Magnolias from a famous Nirvana were also starting as an indie.

Pursuing your career in music is not that simple. The path might be risky and it would take a lot of effort and cash on your part. Unless someone like Jessie J would recognize your potentials and help you on become an artist. But you do not get that chance easily. So instead of waiting for some pop icon to recruit you, you should do the work.

It also works like that with rookie rock bands who wanted to make a name so they make an independent label. And the genre they are playing are what you call indie rock. However, its definition has somehow became unclear nowadays since most bands who were originally on that genre had shifted to the mainstream.

Arctic Monkeys is certainly the top one when it comes to those rock-bands who were working as indie in the beginning and then suddenly grow into the mainstream. They are an English band and was formed in year 2002. Alex Turner was the frontman followed by Matt Helders as their drummer, Mick OMalley for bass guitar and back-up vocals, and Jamie Cook for the keyboard and bass guitar.

Back before they gain popularity, they worked and just played at some gigs. They then record their demos and burned it on the CD so they can give it to their audience for free. Little did they know that someone had distributed to others until the public have noticed their talent. Their fans had even created a fan site for them at MySpace without them knowing.

It was their fans that also contributed to make them successful in their career. And by listening to their music, you would not be surprised on why many individuals invested their effort and time on supporting this band. Their songs became popular and they made six studio albums and also released one live album.

In addition, they also won some big awards. They have seven Brit Awards and also 3 nominations coming from Grammy Awards. You would never doubt it since if you listen closely and understand the lyrics, their song-writing is very on-point and clever.

Moreover, they became one of the first group who gain attention through internet, in other words an internet sensation. As a result, many bands are now using that means as well to promote their music. If you search their songs on YouTube, you could really say that their fans still supported them as they got hundred millions of views from most of their songs.

Choosing this as your path might be risky. But this band had proved that everyone can make it. With strong passion, your dreams will surely be attained.
