Curcuma Flower Care, How To Do It

By Marie Miller

Nature has many natural plants and greeneries growing in its soil. Flowers particularly add fragrances and colors to it. It heightens the aesthetics of gardens in homes and parks. When it blooms, people look forward to it as they watch its petals unfold. Curcuma flower is one flowering plant that people look forward to see.

This plant is under the ginger family. Like any other species, it has many varieties under its class. Though generally, all of them are a summer loving tropical flowers. One such variety is the curcuma alismatifolia, or Siam tulip as known by the locals. This plant is popular among horticulturists and flower enthusiasts as it can be grown indoors.

This is why many foreigners have bought seeds of it back home. They want to watch its elegant and stately structure in their own gardens. They want to see its purple pink buds grow and bloom. It does not hurt that this plant is very easy to care and handle.

To care for them, you need to remember that it is a tropical flower. Thus, it needs lots of sunlight. It need not be under direct sun heat. You can place it near windowsills or balconies. When dark clouds and heavy rain block the sun, you can use artificial lights like fluorescent lamps. Let the plant absorb the light each day for a maximum of sixteen hours.

At times, the soil will dry out because of too much heat. This is not a cause for worry. You just place them under shades. It will keep the soil moist as the flower steadily grows to maturity. Placing its pot under shade is beneficial as it can hold against drying conditions pretty well to grow healthily.

These flowers flourish when environment is humid. Thus, everyday, check its humidity if it is at an optimal fifty degrees and above temperature. If it drops, use a pebble tray or room humidifier to raise the humidity to the ideal level. In effect, soil moisture is kept and maintained to levels ideal for flower growth and development.

Speaking of soil, this plant requires moist and well drained one like humus. It needs to have organic materials within its compositions like compost. If you are using soils that are high in sand and clay contents, you should the organic materials in it before planting the Siam Tulips to the pot. For fertilizers, any generic ones will do as long as you remember to fertilize its soil once in summer and in spring.

Drainage holes are a requirement for the pots you are using. If not, then you have flowers swimming in excess water and have offshoots or rhizomes rotting in the soil. Water should be poured in moderate amounts to prevent this from happening. It is enough to keep and retain soil moisture each week.

Siam tulips will be dormant come winter time to rest. When this season is about to come, you should not do fertilization and watering to the plants. Let its leaves turn yellow and naturally die. When spring blooms, those will grow back once more and will resume the normal life cycle. Remember to place the rhizomes in fresh soil mix in early spring before resuming your routine care.
