Exploring Different Buenos Aires Vacation Packages

By Richard Foster

When it comes to travel whether foreign or domestic, there are a lot of places to visit. When it comes to South America, there are a number of different Buenos Aires vacation packages. The city, first established in 1536 by Pedro de Mendoza with additional portions added in 1580 by Juan de Garay, has become a popular destination for honeymooners and tourists.

While a rather small city in size, as of 2010, Buenos Aires had a population of 2,891,082 with 15,594,420 individuals living in the greater metropolitan area. Though small, it is the biggest city in the province and located on the western side of the Rio de la Plata river on the southeastern coast.

Buenos Aires is an autonomous city ran by a city legislature and local politicians. For, in 1880, the city was removed from the province after several heated political battles. Following the infighting, the city limits were modified to include Begrano and Flores which have now become neighborhoods within the city.

As one of the top tourist destinations in South America, Buenos Aires often feels more like a province than an autonomous city. For, the area is also well known for the preservation of early European architecture which can appear more eclectic. In addition, the city has become even more popular as a tourist destination after having hosted the 1978 FIFA World Cup, the 2018 G20 summit and the Summer Youth Olympics that same year.

The city is extremely diverse and multi-cultural due to the numerous ethnic and religious groups which call the area home. Several different languages are spoken in the city in addition to Native Spanish. In large part, thanks to the millions of immigrants who have come from different areas of the world over the last 151 years.

When it comes to religion and politics, the city has always had a more liberal edge than other provinces, especially those to the north and west. For, ideas such as free trade and exploring foreign ideas and offerings is rare in South America. For example, most other provinces tend to hold a more nationalistic and Catholic stance with regards to religious, political and social issues of the day.

Argentina's history, like most countries if a mixed bag. For, the tension between different factions can be traced all the way back to the federalists-centralist conflicts in the 19th century. While Buenos Aires sent a number of troops to gain acceptance and approval, most missions failed and only resulted in violent clashes which only perpetuated the problem. In fact, it was this action which resulted in the city becoming autonomous, a result which according to locals, appears to have been the best possible outcome.

In large part, it is the immigrant population from Spain and Italy which helped build the city into the multicultural and diverse community it is today. In addition, these individuals also contributed to what has become a vibrant art and music scene. For example, the Colon Theater, located in the center of the city is one of the world's top opera houses. Whereas, a construction boom which took place between 1945 and 1980 gave way to an interest in radio, television, cinema and theater, all of which can now be found in and around the city.
