However, soluble iodized salts can be used in soil fertilization. When these mix with soil, they help in the production of biomass content that is rich in different nutrients. It also raises the level of antioxidants in plants which is essential in helping them remain healthy during a dry spell. When vegetables are treated with iodate fertilizers, they are healthier to consume.

Farmers need iodized chemicals to kill plant pathogens. These are disease-causing micro-organisms that hinder maximum productivity. Post-harvest treatment prevents the fungal infestation in tomatoes and potatoes.
