Sky Is The Limit With High Intensity Strobe Lights

By Jeffrey Butler

The sky is full of secrets that even the best pilot cannot readily know. Being a pilot is not an easy process. It is expensive, and would require years of training for the sky. Not only that. They also have to follow certain regulations, to make sure they take off and land safely.

Safety in flight is not solely dependent on the pilot. The airport has to comply with navigation rules too, especially if it is commercial. They would need obstructions like high intensity strobe lights. These are lighted or marked, warning pilots of their presence whether it is night time or daytime.

These are high intensity intensity devices attached to the tall structures, uses to avoid any possible collisions in the air. Such tools make the structure more visible to any other passing plane and are usually used during night time for low visibility conditions. This does not mean though, that they cannot be used during the day.

Navigation needs lighting and with that, they come to know these things as running light. This is a source of illumination, mostly using LED or colored on a vessel that is water borne or aircraft, used in giving signals to its position, where it is going and what status it is currently in. Ideally, the way they are placed is mandated by civil authorities.

People find it often confusing and hard to differentiate, when they talk about the beacon and strobe. The operational difference comes down to knowing when those two needs to be turned on. Essentially, both are part of the same system. One without the other simply will not do, and unacceptable in terms of aviation rules.

Remember that light is just a stream of photons that originates from one point. It is just that, it really has a certain amount of power, and as such, their properties are what makes them useful to an industry such as aviation. For this, people need four hundred candela, on about twenty five wattage of incandescent light bulb. This is also possible with a five watt LEDs.

For an aviation, the white or red one has to have about four hundred candela, three hundred sixty degrees around the vertical axes of the vessel. The about thirty degrees below and up the horizontal plane, some two thousand lm. This has a wattage of twenty five incandescent light bulb.

Now that may be hard to grasp for a person doing it out of an errand, but the pros and the manufacturer can easily tell the difference. Thorough research should be helpful since there is pretty much confusing results on the internet. When you go for strobe light, the chances are, you will see articles about photography.

Being on an aircraft is a different kind of freedom for the one behind the wheel. The sky is a sea full of wonders that cannot be found elsewhere. But it it is not meant for man to explore alone without any device that would help him feel secured while he is up on the air. Especially when he has a lot of people counting on him to land safely too.
